Can't You Get Along With Anyone?

Why Down South Perspective?
Because I used to live there, meaning Down South -- at a paradise at the end of the road at the bottom of Central America.

I don’t live there any more.

I’m gone from my Down South Paradise.

I still have that Perspective, though.

How to explain?

I look at my writings, and even at my photographs, and I see a pattern.

A perspective.

The perspective, the pattern, I speak of is a longing, and a search.

My first book, a novel called Cosmic Banditos, is about a search for The Meaning of Life. It’s a ridiculous book, of course, but here’s how I dedicate it: “This book is dedicated to people who stick together.” The reason I dedicate it this way is because people who stick together is what the book is really about, and there’s nothing ridiculous about that.

My second book, a memoir called In Search of Captain Zero, is likewise about friendship and sticking together, plus the dream of paradise, and the finding of it, in my case at the end of the road at the bottom of Central America. Being a memoir, which means some sort of portrayal of real life, it’s not quite as ridiculous as my novel, although there are aspects of it that are ridiculous. Real life is ridiculous, come to think of it.

(My first two books have been optioned for the movies, in both cases by big time movie stars. More about this to come, if you hang in and explore my site. Yes, I’m trying to arouse your curiosity.)

My third book (just now in print) is another memoir, this one called Can’t You Get Along With Anyone? A Writer’s Memoir and a Tale of a Lost Surfer’s Paradise. This one is about living the dream, the dream of finding the right place, the right friends, the right mate. Yes, paradise. It’s also about being a writer. Being driven. And it’s about the loss of all of it, except being a writer, and being driven.

But even with the losses, the longing, the pattern, remains, and the search continues.
You have to give it a shot.
