What’s next , I’m afraid, is that you’ll have to buy the book to find out. If you do, you’ll find that The Foreword to the New Edition goes on, gets stranger and more ridiculous, then ends. Then there’s the actual book. Then there’s a goofball Afterword, the purpose of which is to get you to come to this Web site. This setup makes me a little nervous, for this reason: Some of you may buy the book as a result of what you’re reading here on this Web site. Then you’ll read it. By the time you get to the Afterword, I’ll have so mesmerized you with my style and wit that you’ll do as I ask and come back to the Web site, to this link, even though you’ve been here before. (Yes, this would result in a variation of a vuja de experience.) Then, robot-like, you’ll order another copy of the book -- this link is of course designed to elicit exactly that behavior. Then you’ll read the book again, get to the Afterword, and again come back to this Web site, to this link. And so forth. This Circle of Weirdness would be terrific for me, financially, but I’m not a greedy individual and have no desire to limit your future behavior in this way. (This is another example of how this site is different from the millions of e-commerce sites on the Web. How many of the other guys would have compunctions about turning you into a product-buying robot? Think about it.)
Anyway, be on the lookout for this possibility.
By the way, there’s an odd connection between Cosmic Banditos and In Search of Captain Zero; those of you who already know a bit about the latter may have sensed this. There are also some straightforward connections.
Another by-the-way: The dog down in the corner of this page is an artist’s
rendition of High Pockets, the dog from Cosmic Banditos. He’s not
exactly like I pictured him during that first writing session, but close.
Compare him to my, uh… real… dog, whose photo is on the Home
Page. I pictured High Pockets with shorter fur and a lighter brown. I’m
not sure why I see fit to mention this.
